MWL July | Summer Adventure

Hey all, I am back for this month's post with Made With Love. I cant believe the school semester is back and it has been crazy thus far. In the midst of the busy schedule, I have been itching to scrap about my recent Europe trip. It was my first time in Europe and it was such a wonderful time spending it with my husband's family and him.

One of the highlights on this trip was to Lake Balaton in Hungary. It was the biggest lake in Central Europe. On our road trip to Lake Balaton, we stopped by the small town of Veszprem. We loved the quaint and queer vibes of this city and there was a great cliff look-out of the city. We had a whale of a time taking photos and I just had to document about it.

I got to work with Echo Park's Summer Fun collection and it was a really suitable travel collection to work it. I wanted the focus on the layout to be on the photos and to have a big title to complement it. To begin, I layered pieces of patterned papers on a neutral white background. Vary the prints of the pattern papers with different colours and prints and this is a useful way of starting the foundation of the layout.

I positioned my photos to one side of the layout, in a linear and chronological order. That way, the sequence of the photos will go easy on the eyes. Thereafter, I found small embellishments and word phrases and placed them around the photos.

I loved the print of the pink flammingo patterned papers in the collection and used it to create and void the empty space in the layout. Sometimes less is more and it doesn't mean that you need to use embellishments to fill in the extra spaces or gaps. Even papers can do that job!

Using some pop dots, I 'popped' up the title and completed the rest of the layout with some embellishments. Centralising the title in the middle of the page also helps to ensure the focus of the page - the photos and the title.

That completes this month's post. I hope you found the tips useful. Till then, I will see you next month with a brand new post.

MWL | First Day @ School

Greetings and hello! A month has passed and it is my turn again to share the recent layout I did for Made with Love. I just got back from a 2 weeks trip to Europe and it was amazing. You're probably thinking that I would be scrapping about my Europe photos but I think these photos of my nephew deserves a bigger shout out for now! He is 2 and a half years old and recently, he started school. He is coping really well and is fast becoming the most talkative person in our family. We simply love him to pieces.

This month, I got to work with the latest Pink Paislee 'Wild Child' collection. This collection was perfect for the photos that I was going to scrap and rarely do I work with these bold and vibrant boyish tones in a collection. I was excited to give it a try and see how my style might be transcended.

To start of, I layered my photos with patterned papers from the collection and backed them up with pop up dots for extra dimension. A tip that I find useful in working with multiple photos would be placed them in a linear fashion on the layout. To ensure that the photos do not over-clutter, alternative your photos with tags and embellishments. This helps to go easy on the eye and ensure that the photos are spread out.

Once this is done, I worked on the remaining portions of the layout and decorated the tags and frames with extra embellishments. Work with colours that complement the photos and work with elements that help to build the story of the photos. In this case, I wanted to bring out the story of how educaiton can be fun in the classroom, for a young curious 2 year old. Lastly, in areas where you feel that you need extra dimensions, make sure to layer and use those pop dots.

That is it. I hope you enjoyed seeing my thought process as much as I enjoyed scrapping about such a meaningful milestone in my nephew's life.

Till then, have a good week ahead.

MWL APRIL LAYOUT | My Heart is Full

Hi all, it is my time again to share the layout that I did for Made With Love this month. This time around, I challenged myself to use the Maggie Holmes' Flourish Collection, along with the Simple Stories I AM collection's embellishments.

I was pretty amazed by how much these two collections complemented each other. To begin, I wanted to challenge myself to document 4 (!) different photos on my husband's recent 30th bday. I found that the best way to do so was to layer some of the photos with patterned papers, in order to ground the photos collectively in the layout.  In a linear fashion, these photos were placed next to one another.

Thereafter, I tried to embellished the rest of the layout with flat and cardboard stickers. I stuck to this simple rule of placing them in a diagonal triangle fashion, bringing the attention back to the photos. I really love how these embellishments complemented the colours of the photos, which is a guideline that I always used in choosing what fits and what doesnt.

To end if off, I decided to go for more of grunge look, adding splatters and drops of black paint to offset the overall white background.  I am really happy with the outcome and it is my hope that I will be more adventurous to play with more mediums and expand on my existing scrapbooking style.

That's it for today. I do hope that you find these tips helpful. All supplies are available at Made With Love.

March MWL Layout | It's all good

Hey all, it is my time to share my latest layout for Made With Love. This month, I got to play with Pink Paislee's Pick me up collection. I loved the bold colours in the collection and it was a perfect time to scrap about my recent Lunar New Year celebrations.

To begin, I did some fussy cutting and cut out these lovely frames from one of the patterned papers found in the collection. Then I laid them out on a sheet of white background paper and arranged them till I was satisfied with it. Using some of the frames, I placed my photos in them or 'popped' them up for extra dimensions.

With some of the frames, I replaced the inner areas with patterned papers for additional pops of colours to the overall layout while with the remaining frames, I placed some embellishments to give more depths and colours.  The layout was completed with some black paints and stamping.

With a minimalist layout like this, it is really important to keep the proportions just right. Don't overload the embellishments but allow these small elements and the choice of colours bring out the best in this layout.

MWL Jan Layout | The Best Ever

Hello all. Welcome back to the blog. I cant believe 2018 has arrived and work has been hectic thus far. But it has been good , settling in a new chapter of my lives and starting a new family with the husband. I cant wait to see where our lives will go , hopefully with more travels and more fun this year.

This week, I got to work on a layout for Made With Love. We just received prints from our wedding photographer and looking at the photographs really brings back memories of our actual wedding day. With these prints, it was time to start scrapping about them.  So glad to be working with the latest Crate Paper's Good Vibes collection and the Vicky Boutin Embellishments from Amercan Crafts this time around.

To begin, I wanted to start working on layers in my layout. I chose a rather neutral background, a corkboard print and cut patterned papers from the collection, mixing up the colours and the patterns. Layering is key , so it is important to position your layers , stacking them one above and another while adding dimensions to the page.

With the embellishments, the principle remains the same ; layer embellishments above and under one another. A good trick would be to hide some of the elements partially under the papers, letting a portion of them to be seen. Some elements could be 'popped' up to create more dimension.

To make sure that the overall layout is cohesive, ensure that you choose embellishments that match the colour scheme , so that it doesnt deviate too much. In my case, I chose to stick to yellows, pinks and greens. Adding touches of golds, whites and blacks are good neutral alternatives to complete the look.

That is it for this week. Hope you enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed completing this layout. It was certainly good to be back scrapping and cant wait for the next break to do so.

Till then, have a good week ahead.

MWL DEC LAYOUT | Today

Hey all,

So much has happened since my last post. Well, I got married recently and these last two months have been one hectic ride of my life. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and I am glad that we have the rest of the life to look forward to.

With that said, we just got back from our honeymoon and I am sure it is no surprise that we chose Hong Kong, my favourite city in the world as our 1st choice. We stayed in a really cool hotel this time around and right outside our hotel lies a really cool graphic wall. I had to take some OOTD shots to remember this memory.

This month, I worked on the layout using the Crate Paper's Oasis Vellum Die Cut Sheet and the Dear Lizzy Star Gazer Collection. I cut the vellum sheet apart and aligned the pieces in a linear fashion , creating a grid pattern with my photos. Tip : Adhere the vellum sheets in area where there are wordings and coloured areas to minimise the appearance of adhesives peeking through.

To vary the textures further,  I mixed some of the vellum sheets with patterned papers. This would ease the embellishment process later.  Choosing some of these pieces as focal points, I used a mixture of big and small embellishments, matching the overall colour scheme of the layout.  Even though the embellishments are not travel-related, do not be afraid to use them as they are versatile and can be used to meet an story that is being documented.

I love how this layout turned out and I am looking foward to scrapping more during this month.
Till then, I will see you next month

MWL October Layout | Jolly

Hey all, I am back with a new post this month. Glad to be working with some Christmas collections this month. It has never too early to start scrapbooking on past Christmas traditions. One in particular would be the daily treats that K and B gets to open for each day, leading up to the 25th of Dec (Christmas). I had this since two years back and each year, I would go to Muji and get pre-packed candies for Christmas.

This month, I got to work on a gold and black theme using the Kaiser Craft's Mint Wishes Collection and MME's Joyful collection.  To mute the tone of the layout, I used my photo editor and made the photo slightly monochromatic.  I did the same, for the choices of patterned papers and embellishments. To mute the colours slightly, I painted across them in white too.

I am all about the small details. To complete the layout, I opted for some pen works and a white title with its backing in tact. Staying through the overall theme of black and gold, it was important for the little elements to complement this theme. The three little houses stacked next to one another is probably my favourite section of the layout. Love how these Christmas trees are lined up in front of the houses!

That is it from me. I am glad to have tried something out of my usual scrapbooking style. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved it.

Till then, I will be back for my next post.

MWL AUG LAYOUT | Remember This

Hey all, I am back with another post for Made With Love. This month, I got the chance to pick out my own products that I would love to work on.

I came across the Jen Hadefield's Heart of Home collection and fell in love with the papers and embellishments. This collection 'screams' me as I am all about pastel and sweet colours. To put this layout together, I focused on the layering of the embellishments next to my focal point, the photo.

Building layers on your layout is a fun but tedious task. This is how I approach my layering techniques.

1. It is important to balance out and vary your patterns of your patterned papers. Mix up different prints with a neutral-coloured cardstock or ensure the prints are a mix of bigger prints and smaller prints.

2. Embellishments - do not place an element simply on your layout. Back it up with a small sticker or a patterned paper for more layered look. Stack embellishments behind and in front of each other for a continuous pattern. Some embellishments can be placed 'flat' on the layout while others should be raised with some pop dots for more 3-Dimensional look.

That's about it for this post. I hope you find these tips useful.
Be sure to check back next month for a new post.

MWL July Layout | Girls just want to have Sun

Hey all, I am back with another post for this month featuring a layout done for Made With Love. During the last school vacation, my nieces had a 3 days 2 night stayover at my house. It was such a lovely time catching up with them, bringing them out for nice lunches and spending good quality time together. One of our favourite 'must-dos' would be to walk out to our nearest supermarket, get some ice creams and indulge in this sweet goodness.

This month, I decided to opt for a non-patterned paper challenge. Using a white cardstock only, I created this background by using the Pink Paislee Adhensive Backed Paper. It has a sticky-adhesive backing so I randomly fussy cut a pattern of my choice and adhered it on the white cardstock.

The vibrant background ensured that the remaining embellishments were kept at a minimal. Using just decorative brads and cardboard stickers from the Echo Park collections, I filled them in at random places of the layout to give more depth and contextual layers. Lastly, I used my favourite Tattered Angels's Cherry Blossom Mist and dropped blots at two corners of the layout. I thought it complemented the dripping effect of a melted ice cream. Haha.

That's it for today. Hope that you found these tips useful. I am really happy with how this layout turned out to be.

MWL June Layout | Do More of What Makes You Happy

Hello all. Thanks for dropping by the blog today. It is time to share the layout I did for Made With Love this Month. This month, I got my hands on the latest collections from Simple Stories, American Crafts and Heidi Swapp to play with.

I was glad to start working on this layout as I have been wanting to scrap about our recent trip to National Gallery Museum. To me, that's the best kind of dates and I simply love exploring museums and looking at the wonderful artifacts of history and culture. It was my 3rd trip to the museum but was so glad to be doing it with J for the first time.

I wanted to portray a more vibrant and colourful outlook since the photos taken were rather neutral. I used the Hello Lovely Collection Play Cards by Simple Stories and randomly scattered them on the layout to layer my photos and embellishments.

The layout was quickly put together, taking the path of a more linear and boxy outlook. Smaller bits of embellishments were placed in between empty spaces and to end it, I did some quick journaling using my trusty typewriter.

That's it for today. Be sure to check out Made With Love today. They are having a great sale this month and I am sure we are all looking forward in getting some more scrapbooking supplies.

Going to use the remaining time during my June Holidays to scrap too.
Till next month, have a great week!

MWL APR LAYOUT | Our Love is His

Hey all, I am back with another post to share on this month's post. This month, I got to play with products from Heidi Swapp and American Crafts' Hazelwood line. Recently, J and I had our pre-wedding photoshoot and we received the photos. We were all too excited and I decided it was high time to start scrapping. Perhaps to display this layout on the actual day? We will see.

The lovely flower die-cuts were something I wanted to use extensively to complement the photo. I randomly placed them in the center of the layout, spreading them out so that they will be spaced out to cover gaps and spaces in between. I also fussy cut some more flowers from one of the Hazelwood's line for extra layers and volume.

To fill in the rest of the gaps, I used small embellishments such as the enamel dots and heart chipboard. The rest of the layout was kept simple. With some remaining phrase stickers and a title, the layout was complete.

That's it for today. I am looking forward to scrapping more this long weekend. Do drop by at Made With Love as all supplies and products are still available.

Till next month.
Have a good week ahead

MWL Mar Layout | Kate

Hey, I am back from another post to share about my MWL layout for this month. I was challenged to take up the Echo Park Papers' Once Upon A Time collection, which was a collection that had a whimsical vibe as it was all things DISNEY.

As this collection had a lot of purplish elements (!!!), the first thing I did was to scan through my photo collection and ensure that the photo chosen would match with this collection. I found an old photo of Kate and decided to scrap about it.

She is such a girly girl and she loves to read books and play dress up. I was sure to place elements that represented her personality.

Do you notice that the white cardstock was painted with some pink paint? I wanted the background to blend into the embellishments more thus, I decided to paint at certain areas and it turned out so much better. I simply swiped my brush from left to right to give a more random and subtle vibe.

Thanks for dropping by. Be sure to check out this collection at Made With Love today. I cant wait to see what I will do with the remaining leftovers I have from this collection.

Have a good week ahead.

Made With Love | January Layout

Hey all, I am back for another post today. This time around, I got a chance to play with the latest Carta Bella's Flora Collection. This collection is simply beautiful and I absolutely love the outcome of what I did.

This layout was quickly put together with journaling cards that was featured in the collection. I absolutely love journaling cards as they are a great way of filling up empty spaces as well as they serve as great decorative items.

As you can see, I chose to leave some of the journaling cards that I placed in its original state.  For some others, I kept the embellishments to a minimum, depending on the space available. Choosing smaller embellishments help as they fill gaps without being too cluttered.

As for journaling cards that had more space available, I chose to embellish them with alpha stickers and bigger embellishments to help convey the story of the photo. They turned out beautiful.  Journaling cards are one of my favourite ways of putting a quick layout together and I like how it makes the process a lot easier especially when there is limited time during the week.

That's all for today.
Till next time, have a great week ahead.

Made with Love | December Layout

Hello everyone, I am back with another layout post for MWL. This month, I got to play with Bo Bunny's Merry and Bright Collection as well as Carta Bella's Christmas Wonderland collection. Both these collections were really a joy to work with.

I started with a white-based background to complement the overall festive bright colours that were present in the collections. Then came building up the layers with patterned papers, and then placing my photos on top of these layouts and to finish off with placing embellishments on the layout (my favourite part). The best way to layering would be to ensure that there is enough texture and depth, so as to ensure the overall layout has a more 3-Dimensional feel.

When working with embellishments, try to mix a mixture of big and small elements together, creating clusters here and there. Find creative ways to present your title using stamps? That's exactly what I did and created my quick little title of the place I have been dying to visit in Seoul.

To complete the layout, I sprinkled some gold paints and this helped to tie in the festive occasion all together. Ahhh! I cant believe that Christmas is coming!

I hope that you enjoyed this post as much as I had doing up this layout.
May this festive occasion bring much joy and happiness to you and your family.

Till then, I will see you in my next post!

MWL | Oct Layout - Snow

Hello all, I am back with another post for Made With Love this month. For the next few months, the MWL designers will be sharing more about themselves and their works. Please visit their blogs to find out more. This week, it is my turn.

1) Who am I ?
I am a teacher , teaching Geography and Social Studies in a secondary school. I have been doing it for 7 years. I am a civil servant by day and what keeps me sane are the quiet moments I get to scrap during my free periods.

2) What is my creative style ?
I would say soft, clean and streamlined. I like finding a balance in composition and style in the layouts I make. I like my layouts to be pretty and femanine layouts , emphasing on minute details.

3) What inspires me ?
Pinterest!

4 What I love about being Singaporean ?
Multiracial. Safe. Food!!!!

5) What do I wish for ?
This sounds like a question that they would ask for all beauty pageants. In the words of the main lead in the movie, Miss Congeniality... ' World Peace!' (Nah! I am kidding)

I wish for good health and happiness. The world is everchanging and change is one thing that is constant. You have the power to be happy. Choose it.

 ;

This month, I got to play with the latest Echo Park ' I Love Winter' Collection. Christmas is around the corner and every year around this time, I take the opportunities to scrap some of the past Christmas-related events that have occured ,  to remisnice on the good old memories. Stay tune for more future Christmas layouts on this blog!

I wanted to document these photos in particular as it was the first time my mum and I got to see snow. It was end winter and we made use of the remaining snow left on the ground to make our first-ever snowmen. It was such great fun!

This inspired the overall theme of the layout - snow! To begin with, I chose a silver polka dotted patterned paper as my base. I find that having a neutral background is always helpful as it gives more avenues to pile on brighter coloured papers and embellishments.

A trick that I love to use when it comes to layering embellishments would be to place patterned papers or sticker underneath the particular embellishment. This helps to ground the embellishment more and provides more depth and texture. Take for example the snowman sticker below. By placing a flat sticker behind it provides more continuity, vibrance and volume to the overall layout. Dont be afraid to use your pop dots too as they provide more dimensional-effect !

That's it from me today. Till next time, have a good week ahead!
